It retrieves Twitter account updates ('tweets') and parses them for different content.

It can extract hashtags, lists, author names, links, mentions and much more.

It works like a data miner or text processor.

Here are some key features of "twitter-text-rb":

· Username extraction and linking all valid Twitter usernames.
· Auto-links and extracts list names when they are written in a @user/list-name format.
· Auto-links and extracts hashtags, where a hashtag contains any latin letter or number but cannot be solely numbers.
· Auto-linking and extraction of URLs
· Auto-linking and extraction work in Tweets of all languages. This means that languages without spaces between words should work equally well.
· Hit highlighting to provide emphasis around the "hits" returned from the Search API, built to work against text that has been auto-linked already.
· Conformance suite and tests

Limitations:

· Does not verify that the username is a valid Twitter account.
