By a design fault or not, Flash cannot play .wav files by default.

The AS3WavSound (AWS) library was created to add the aforementioned missing support, allowing developers to easily embed and playback .wav files without having to convert them to another format at runtime.

AWS is not really that complicated, being an ultra thin copy of the native Adobe Sound class.

Works with Flash and Flex the same.
