The libraries are written in Java, with sprinkles of XML and Python.

Here are some key features of "Apache Whirr":

Whirr provides:
· A cloud-neutral way to run services. The user doesn't have to worry about the idiosyncrasies of each provider.
· A common service API. The details of provisioning are particular to the service.
· Smart defaults for services. The developer can get a properly configured system running quickly, while still being able to override settings as needed.

Supported services:
· Most of the components of the Apache Hadoop stack
· Apache Mahout
· Chef
· Puppet
· Ganglia
· ElasticSearch
· Apache Cassandra
· Voldemort
· Hama

Services can be deployed to:
· Amazon EC2
· Rackspace Cloud

Limitations:

· Whirr is currently in the Apache Incubator, still in development.
