Apache Flume was developed as an intermediary system that collects logs from one application and delivers it to another.

It has a simple and flexible architecture based on streaming data flows.

Flume is also robust and fault tolerant with tunable reliability mechanisms and many failover and recovery systems.

It is centrally managed and allows for intelligent dynamic management.

The system also uses a simple extensible data model that allows for online analytic applications.
