Summary : I’m not sure I loved Randy and Kara’s song choice here, but Kris Allen gave a solid performance of OneRepublic’s “Apologize” - check out this May 12 final 3 American Idol performance video. however, was amazing.

However, at this point on May 12, 2009 the American Idol is not really about who had the best performance as much as who has the largest number of voting fans. But I honestly think it will be a close call either way.

American Idol on May 12 of 2009 is down to its Top 3 and for its 300th episode each of the guys had to sing two songs: a choice of their own and one chosen by one of the judges. Hands down, the guys picked better songs for tonight's American Idol than the judges. Between the guys, the competition is going to be close and the results may be narrow.

Danny Gokey started out tonight's American Idol with a song chosen by Paula – “Dance Little Sister” by Terrence Trent D’Arby. I’m not a big fan of the song to begin with, but I really didn’t like what Danny did to it. The graveliness of his voice is really starting to grate on my nerves. Personally, I thought it was a poor song choice and Danny did nothing to improve on it.

On the other hand, One Republic’s “Apologize” was the perfect song for Kris Allen’s voice and personality. He did a beautiful rendition of the song. And as Randy said, I think the song showed us what kind of future Kris has in the music business. And that’s the kind of music, I would buy.

Likewise, Simon picked a beautiful song for Adam Lambert to belt out. However, I have to say that I like U2’s version of “One” better than Adam’s. First it started off a little too slow and then it was a bit too much in the middle. But I give Adam props for adding his own spin to the song even if I didn’t favor it.

The guys returned for the second round with their own song choices. Ryan made it sound like a really big deal, but isn’t that what they’ve been doing all along is choosing their own songs. They just had a bigger selection to chose from this week.

Danny slowed things down with “You are so Beautiful” by Joe Cocker. It’s a gorgeous song, but again I’m not finding anything appealing in Danny’s voice. He didn’t do a bad job, but I find that all his songs fall into one of two sounds – upbeat (which includes the dancing) and ballad. This sounded like all his other ballads.

But if Danny put me to sleep, Kris woke me up with an awesome acoustic version of Kayne West’s “Heartless.” He might be quiet, humble and unassuming, but Kris will be remembered. Its performances like this that make him stand out. I can’t wait to hear this song again.

The night closed with Adam taking on “Crying.” I’m a huge fan of Aerosmith so I was really looking forward to this performance. It had real potential, but I had trouble hearing Adam. The background singer kept singing over him and it really took away from the performance. However, I enjoyed listening to a more “natural” Adam without the huge “performance” element.

Personally, I think it should be Adam Lambert and Kris Allen in the finale of American Idol. I think Kris won the night with “Heartless” and Adam’s “Crying” came in a close second.

NASCAR’s Kevin Grubb Dead at 31

Kevin Grubb, a former NASCAR Nationwide Series regular, was found dead in a Richmond, VA hotel room on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old younger brother of former NASCAR driver Wayne Grubb was suspended from competing in NASCAR sanctioned events after refusing to submit to a drug test in September 2006, following a crash at Richmond International Raceway.

Grubbs had previously been suspended for a failed a drug test in March 2004. He was reinstated in 2006 and competed in the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series.

On September 11, 2006, Grubb crashed at Richmond and refused to take the NASCAR mandated drug test after the accident.

Grubb claimed the next day that he had sustained a concussion in the crash and had no memory of refusing the test.

The Mechanicsville, VA native was discovered at the Alpine Motel just outside Richmond, VA at 11:30 a.m. No cause of death has been released, however, no foul play is suspected.

Here's why: The number of votes for the finale is usually double that of earlier weeks, and that's because a lot of casual fans vote for the first time (plus voting goes four hours instead of two). And I think a lot of these people will vote for Kris because no one really dislikes him. He's harmless and has yet to say or do anything to generate any kind of anti-Kris sentiment -- and I don't think you can say that about the other two. Videos.

2. (1) Adam Lambert (Hollywood, Calif.) — And then we have Adam. He delivered the best performance of last week ("Whole Lotta Love") and the season ("Mad World"). And I've finally come to the realization that if he has a great band behind him, he may be the most successful product of "American Idol" yet -- whether he wins or not. Videos.

3. (4) Danny Gokey (Milwaukee, Wis.) — His rabid fan base came to his rescue this week after one of the lowest-rated Top 4 performances in Idol history. When a song is in his wheelhouse, Danny scores. But give him a challenge and expect a rough night.

Mickey Carroll, one of the last surviving Munchkins from the 1939 beloved film "The Wizard of Oz," died Thursday. Carroll was one of more than 100 adults and children who were recruited to play the movie natives of what author L. Frank Baum called Munchkin Country in his 1900 book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."

"The Wizard of Oz" was Carroll's only movie. When it appeared on television in the 1960s, he found a new career at charitable events, retail events and Oz-related events.

"It's not me; it's the movie," Carroll said. Carroll was born Michael Finocchiaro on July 8, 1919, in St. Louis. Carroll played the part of the Munchkinland "Town Crier," marched as a "Munchkin Soldier" and was the candy-striped "Fiddler" who escorted the movie's wide-eyed orphan, Dorothy Gale, played by Judy Garland, down the yellow brick road toward Emerald City.

In the mid-1940s, Carroll returned to St. Louis to run the family business making cemetery monuments. In November 2007, Carroll and six other surviving Munchkins received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Carroll was joined on that occasion by former Munchkin colleagues Ruth Duccini, Jerry Maren, Margaret Pellegrini, Meinhardt Raabe, Karl Slover and Clarence Swensen. Swensen died in February.

At a special screening of the film in 2005 in Los Angeles, Carroll said talking to longtime fans about the movie brought back their childhoods.

Who was Mickey Carroll: Carroll was an actor and one of the last surviving munchkins from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.

He began taking dance lessons at the age of 7 at the Fox Theater in St. Louis, Missouri. It was there that he met Jack Haley and the two eventually went to Hollywood and appeared in a few Spanky and Our Gang episodes.

He signed a contract with MGM and was in school when he met Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. Garland herself offered Carroll his roll in The Wizard of Oz. He was cast as the Munchkinland "Town Crier".

His Wizard of Oz costume consisted of yellow flowers sticking out of a striped vest with a purple cloak. Along with the town crier roll he also played a "Munchkin Solider" and a candy-striped "Fiddler" who escorted Dorothy down the yellow brick road on her way to the Emerald City.

Soon after The Wizard of Oz was done filming, Carroll quit acting because he knew his height would become a factor in getting roles.

In 2007 the "Munchkins" received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

One more contestant in “American Idol” takes the fall. Allison Iraheta, the 16-year-old red hair has been eliminated from the competition after being put on the bottom two with Danny Gokey.With the departure of Allison, the top 3 is officially dominated by males. Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen will battle it out next week with two songs each. One song will be picked by the judges while another one is left for the contestant to choose.

On the scene for the Top 4 results night TRAVESTY

Whatever. There's swine flu. Santa Barbara is on fire. Allison went home. Adam Lambert's gonna win. Or Danny Gokey. Or Kris Allen. (?) It's fine. I'm fine. You're fine. This...is what happened tonight at American Idol.

Oh, TENSION. On the floor of the soundstage, a small child was walking to its seat, wearing a Slash wig and top hat. Someone being funny seated this child right behind Mrs. Slash and her son. Hilarity ensued.

We went through the usual dance-scream-dance nonsense, and based on the cheers in the audience when Cory asked who we voted for, I was pretty sure either Kris or Danny was going home. "If you ask for something, you don't get it," said Cory. (Ooh! Ooh! I want Kara to come back next season!) The room seemed totally resistant to lying about the fact that No Doubt and Paula Abdul were "performing," if not downright hostile once they were told both acts were pre-taped. Cory also asked if anyone had been in the crowd for yesterday's apocalyptic dress rehearsal, and one woman down in the stage left pit raised her hand, then asked about Debbie. "She's doing very well," said Cory. Signs: Boring. Judges: Came in. Randy stopped to kiss Mrs. Slash. Kara saw a sign reading "Kara is a Rock Star!" and jerked both her hands into the air and pointed at her own head. With 22 seconds to go, Ryan walked in, acknowledged a couple signs, then walked down into the pit for the cold open. Had a hard time deciding which part of the cold open was lamer: The writers' dorky "School of Rock/schooled" parallel, or Danny Gokey wrinkling his nose and saying, "This isn't really my kind of music" with barely-masked disdain. The contestants stayed glued to the Ford video playing on the big screen as they took their places for the group number, which was sung live, probably because of Slash. Oy. I can only encourage all those who thought tonight's Alice Cooper cover was good to watch the real thing. During the first break, Allison whacked Danny in the chest again, this time by way of explanation -- apparently, Gokey hadn't known what Ryan was talking about after the song. (Dead inside...or dead outside?) Then Kris hugged Danny and Allison, then Danny and Allison hugged. Adam hugged the crew member who brought them water. Then Ryan asked Allison about talking back... and I swear to you, PopWatchers, I heard her curse. But I thought she dropped an f-bomb, and when I went back to the broadcast to hear what they bleeped out, the bleep wasn't really in the place where I thought that f-bomb had been. I do it all the time. It's fun.

Ryan went and sat in Paula's empty chair while she "performed," and I enjoyed watching the judges' response to this tape: Randy and Kara gamely bopped along, while Ryan and Simon engaged in some deep, disinterested conversation. (Drat. Once again, the judges led the standing ovation. "Awwww," said the audience. (Raise your standards, audience.) Meanwhile, Cory was unloading Idol merch like the plane was going down.

Big applause for Paula after her triumphant "performance," and a smooth transition into No Doubt -- which got way less in-house response than the former Laker Girl. Enjoyed seeing the moment where the pit girls from last night saved Gwen's mic from rolling away while she was doing push-ups. Quick question: Do we really need a video montage of previous homecoming video montages? As we moved into judging (TENSION), no one booed when Ryan referenced Simon's comments on The Horror, but everybody booed the negative comments about Kris. Allison pumped her fist, and went to grab the stunned Kris as soon as we went to break. Once the other contestants left the stage, Kris fell into a long, deep hug with the water lady. (RESTORE)

No Doubt set-up time yesterday: 40 minutes. Next break. Simon headed back stage right to hug another girl, Randy went on stage, Daughtry (just the lead singer) went into the stage left pit, and Kara ascended the opposite set of stairs, presumably to find whoever made her the "Rock Star" sign and pay them their $20. Cory was up in the middle house, talking to a woman who was pregnant with twins. "If you name one of them Cory, I'll give you an iPod Touch," he said. The woman behind me dropped her sign on my head again.

And then they sent Allison home. Because I watched it later on TV, I know that Kara spent much of the show's end wailing, "Allison! Amazingly, this song was followed by one of Aerosmith's old-timey classics, "Jaded." So which of the American Idol contestants will be eliminated tomorrow? The American Idol judges didn’t force their opinions on anyone. Ahem.

At this precise moment in time, there are only four American Idol contestants left in the competition. We’ve said goodbye to all the old favourites like Blindy and Monobrow and that completely anonymous woman and now we’re left with American Idol’s creme de la creme. Plus that bloke whose wife died.

If the judges get their way, Kris Allen will get eliminated. If the audience votes honestly, Danny Gokey will go.

When you think rock, chances are you think Slash. And then when you think Slash, you think silly silly hat.

Anyway, last night was American Idol’s Rock Night, and Slash was drafted in to be the guest mentor. Did he do his job? In the sense that he made one of the contestants sound like a wounded dinosaur being forced to participate in a violent bout of prison sex, then yes. Slash did his job extraordinarily well.

So which of the American Idol contestants will be eliminated tomorrow? The American Idol judges didn’t force their opinions on anyone. At all. Ahem.

The trouble with this, though, is that they might not get want they want, due to a) Adam Lambert being in the bottom two last week and b) Danny Gokey being an absolute shitcake.

So that’s why everyone knew what’d happen during last night’s American Idol - the judges would fall over themselves praising Adam and Danny, while Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta would be told that their voices had single-handedly given Simon Cowell Ebola of the bum. And that’s exactly what happened, even though Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta were perfectly decent and Danny Gokey chose to make this noise instead of doing any actual singing…

We’ll just have to wait until tonight to see who’ll get the boot from American Idol this week. If the judges get their way, Kris Allen will get eliminated. If the audience votes honestly, Danny Gokey will go. If we have our way, the four American Idol judges plus the entire production team will sign a televised pledge promising that Rock Night was a ghastly mistake that will never be made again, and then they’ll cancel the rest of the season by way of apology

But we shouldn’t judge Danny Gokey for singing like a 1950s housewife who’s just seen a mouse in her kitchen, because this was American Idol Rock Night, and everyone knows that the essence of rock is making a series of wildly jarring noises with your mouth. It’s why Allison Iraheta sounded like an emphysemic woman trying to shout at the moon during her performance of Cry Baby, and it’s why Adam Lambert sang Whole Lotta Love in the style of a man who’d necked a handful of laxatives earlier and was trying desperately to clamp his sphincter shut so he wouldn’t drown the audience with a horrific poo tsunami.

Glam rocker tackled the legendary 1970 Led Zeppelin song for 'American Idol' rock night.

Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That's the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off Led Zeppelin's 1970 Stonehenge of rock, "Whole Lotta Love." And that's before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again."

That's the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on "American Idol" rock night Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004.

The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album Led Zeppelin II. Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, "Love" was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called "You Need Love," which was penned by Dixon.

For Zeppelin's version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin' Wolf, "Back Door Man" and "Shake For Me," nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966's "You Need Loving" from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin's first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band's only British single in 1997.

Robert Pattinson Nominated For Breakthrough Performance

We are all looking forward to New Moon, the sequel to the blockbuster hit Twilight. New Moon will continue the story of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, played by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. We also know that we will learn more about Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner. In a recent interview with Fandango, Robert Pattinson talks about his portrayal of famed Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali in Little Ashes. Of course, the subject of Twilight came up and here are a few excerpts from Pattinson's interview.

When asked about New Moon, Robert Pattinson said, "The interesting thing about this one is that so much of my character is in Bella's head. It's based on a mixture of memories and nightmares. Bella thinks she is going mad. It's really, really different than Twilight. When asked whether he felt it was harder to portray a fictional character, Edward Cullen, or a real person as he did in Little Ashes, Robert says, "I think in a lot of ways it's kind of the same. You're still playing fiction even though you're playing a real character. The only thing that you can take from the book is the general outline, the mood changes, the emotional changes and development.

For the first time, MTV entrusted the 2009 Movie Award nominations to the fans. They voted and the nominations were announced today. The blockbuster movie hit Twilight leads with seven nominations. Right behind is Slumdog Millionaire, which has six nominations.

Twilight's Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner have both been nominated for Best Breakthrough Performance Male and their co-star, Kristen Stewart, has been nominated for Best Female Performance. All well deserved, but who are they up against?

For Best Breakthrough Performance Male, Slumdog's Dev Patel and Narnia's Ben Barnes made the list. The Best Female Performance category is a little more crowded however. To take home the Golden Popcorn trophy, Kristen Stewart will need to beat big names such as Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet and Anne Hathaway. Will be an interesting to see how the fans vote!

Best Movie nominations include Twilight, Slumdog Millionaire and The Dark Knight. All very interesting, but we are more interested in the Best Kiss category. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart made the list along with Slumdog's Freida Pinto and Dev Patel.

Who will win? Will it be Twilight, the movie that made us fall in love with vampires? Or maybe the Indian Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire? Well, voting is now open over at MTV. Vote today on who you think should walk home with the trophy.

The winners will be revealed on May 31. The show will be hosted by Saturday Night Live star Andy Samberg.

Dom Deluise Passed Away At 75

We've just learned that Dom DeLuise -- who starred in such classics as "The Cannonball Run" and "Blazing Saddles
" and was the voice of Pizza the Hutt in "Spaceballs".DeLuise was known for his broad comedy in movies like "The Cannonball Run" and "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." He also was a staple of the Mel Brooks comedies, appearning in "The Twelve Chairs, "Blazing Saddles," "Silent Movie," "History of the World, Part I," "Spacballs" and "Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Dom DeLuise, the comedian who became a household name in the '70s and '80s for his small but memorable roles in Blazing Saddles, Cannonball Run and Spaceballs, died late Monday night in a Los Angeles hospital. He was 75.

DeLuise got his big break in 1964 as a as a regular performer on TV's The Entertainers. He soon became a regular guest star on The Dean Martin Summer Show. The exposure led to Deluise's landing his own eponymous comedy program on CBS that lasted for a season.

In the '70s, DeLuise moved to the big screen, becoming a regular fixture in various Mel Brooks films. After meeting Burt Reynolds on the set of Brooks's Silent Movie, the two actors became friends and worked together in several films, including two Cannonball Run movies, Smokey and the Bandit II and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

DeLuise, who often made jokes about his rotund figure, was an avid chef who wrote four cookbooks. He also wrote seven children's books.

He married actress Carol Arthur in 1965. His three sons – Peter, Michael and David – are all actors. .

We're told he passed away peacefully in his sleep at around 6 PM. The Insider" confirms that Dom DeLuise has died.

The Golden Globe-nominated actor died Monday night at a Los Angeles hospital. He was 75 years old.

Dom is probably best-known for his work in Mel Brooks films like 'Blazing Saddles,' 'Silent Movie,' 'History Of The World Part One,' 'Space Balls,' 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights,' and co-starring with Burt Reynolds in films like 'The Cannonball Run,' 'Smokey and The Bandit II,' 'The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas' and 'The End.'

He also hosted the popular TV show "Candid Camera" from 1991-1992. Dom was an avid cook and author, penning several cooking guides and children's books.

"I was thinking the other day about this," his close friend Burt Reynolds tells us. "As you get older you think about this more and more, I was dreading this moment. Dom always made everyone feel better when he was around. I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. I will miss him very much."

Denise Richards Will Never Sing in Public Again

Denise Richards wants you to know that there's a very good reason she sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" the other day at a Chicago Cubs game.

And, unlike other onscreen vixens like Leighton Meester, it certainly has nothing to do with her trying to impress people with her singing abilities.

The E! reality star knows she cannot carry a tune, but…

Richards was in the Windy City for a fundraiser for the Kidney Cancer Association (her mom died of the disease about a year ago). While she was there, Richards asked Cubs management if the group could set up an informational booth at Wrigley Field during Friday's game.

"In return, they said, 'Will you sing?' " Richards explains to me. "So I said yes, because it's for a good cause and we want to raise awareness about kidney cancer."

Unfortunately, the cancer message got lost along the way, because as soon as video of Richards' performance hit the Internet, the trashing began.

"I'm clearly not a singer," she says. "I wasn't doing it to show off my pipes. Thank God I wasn't singing the national anthem. But I thought it would be fun...I had no idea the backlash I would get."

As for her critics, Richards said they need not worry about her ever singing in public again.

"It took everything in me to get up there and do that," she says. "My dad and my sister kept saying, 'Just remember you're doing this for Mom,' so that's how I got through it. It's just unfortunate that doing something good was turned into such a negative."

American idol, Artist, adams Lamberts, new artist

The theme on this week's American Idol is songs from the Rat Pack era, and the five remaining contestants are mentored by Jamie Foxx. Anyhoo ...

Kris Allen starts things off with "The Way You Look Tonight," one of my favorite songs from that era. The tune starts off slow, then picks up with a jazzy beat in the middle. Really, really nice.

Kara agrees, saying Kris set the technical standard high for the evening. "You are truly a dark horse in this competition," says Kara. Paula says he's made an amazing transition from boy-next-door to sophisticated gentleman. The song really works for her. The Judges: Randy says she looks like Brittney Murphy and sings like Pink. Kara says she's not nervous for Allison anymore, that she's not just a one-trick pony or rock chick. Paula says it was alluring and tender. Simon thinks she might be in trouble tonight and called the song "mechanical." Jamie Foxx doesn't have much to say during rehearsals, but then calls Matt back into the room for more feedback. The performance starts off slow and picks up steam along the way, with Matt adding some nice runs and power. Not my favorite performance tonight, but nice job.

The Judges: Randy says it's probably one of the hardest songs to sing, and it was a little pitchy. Simon agrees with Paula, saying it's the only believable, authentic song he's heard tonight. Danny Gokey is next, singing "Come Rain or Come Shine." During rehearsals, Jamie Foxx kind of intimidates Danny by looking at him intensely about one inch from his face. Foxx says it's like working with director Michael Mann, whom I'm sure is an intense guy. The performance is good, with Danny wearing these beautifully dorky Mad Men-type, black-rimmed glasses. Great job overall, ending with some power notes.

The Judges: Randy says that Danny is the only singer tonight who could actually put out an album of Rat Pack songs. Kara loved his Rat Pack swagger. Paula calls it "stellar." Simon also loves the swagger and confidence, calling the performance "outstanding."

Adam Lambert sings "Feeling Good." The performance stats with a white-suited Adam descending a pink-lighted staircase. Paula likens him to Michael Phelps in the Olympics. Simon loves the showmanship, especially Adam's entrance on the staircase.

Adam Lambert sings "Feeling Good" to close "American Idol's" Rat Pack night, with a little "rock edge" he says. Jamie Foxx calls it "totally incredible."

Adam comes down a flight of pink stairs in a white suit, stops halfway through to spool out the opening notes. Man, he just looks like a star, all backlit. A very interesting take on the song, is speeding up the tempo at times.

It's another classic Lambert performance -- stalks down the stairs, rock music kicks in, he's getting ready to melt this. Is totally on control on the stage; like KISS running full-tilt into Frank Sinatra. Great last note. Not, again, one of his top three, but still memorable as heck and, as always, interesting.

Randy says a little theatrical, bit too much drama, but in the zone, another good performance. Kara says her mouth is always open when he performs -- "shocking and confusing and sleazy" but she really loves him. Paula says "you're our Michael Phelps." Hmmm ... so he's dating Miss California, too?!

Simon gives him some praise, says you want to win, you want to prove a point every week -- best entrance of the year so far.

Tomorrow: Taylor Hicks and Natalie Cole perform.
